How do you start with AI if you have never used it?

Here is the part that sounds too small to work. Open any language model and complain. Not in a theatrical way. Just say it straight: I do not know how to use this, I do not know where to start, I am worried it is too hard. That mess is already a prompt.

The model does not grade you. It does not tell you that you should have learned this last year. It takes the chaos and turns it into a list, or it asks whether you want to start by doing something or by reading something. Either answer is fine. You did not need to know that before you typed.

You also do not need the machinery. Networks, tokens, parameter counts, none of that is the entry ticket. What you need is one real thing you want: a mail written, a trip sketched, a document made readable, a tiny page that actually exists. The model works from that. Honesty about what you cannot do beats a polished question every time, because a polished question hides the context the model would have used.

Wait, complaining is the method? That feels like giving up, not starting.

It feels like nothing because people treat a first prompt like an exam. It is not. "I cannot do this" is context. "Help me write a mail" is a task with no texture. The complaint tells the model where you actually are, which is the only place a useful plan can start from.

Then you shrink it. One goal, one small plan, one action. Intuition is what grows after that, and it does not come from a book. Intuition is the feeling for when the model is helping and when you should check it, when to ask for more and when to stop and do the last bit yourself. You get that by using the thing, not by studying it first.
